Ho, Ho, Ho to You, Ho
People still simply amaze me when it comes to the "holiday season". All the crap they talk about buying uneccessary junk for their kids and such, but when it comes down to being charitable to someone they don't know - forget it.
We were picked to host an 8 year-old girl from the United Christmas Service. She put some small, inexpensive things on her wishlist. But this morning a few select individuals decided it would be best to whine about not being asked "in advance" if they wanted to participate. Seriously, you don't have to if you don't want to, it's not mandatory. Hearing this complaining made me seriously stabby....stabby, but most of all thankful that the 98% of people I surround myself with don't have this mindset.
I am fortunate to have a job, no matter what. And considering my parents have always given me whatever I needed and wanted, I am grateful. Any small token is appreciated - no matter what the cost. I consider it an honor to make someone else's holiday just a bit more tolerable, especially an innocent child.
In honor of this, and with hopes that by extending myself even farther, it will be karmically passed to someone else (previously mentioned) - We will be purchasing some goods from OxFam in addition to the Christmas Service. There are several, pretty cost-effective ways to help people in need. Please check this site out ( www.oxfamamericaunwrapped.com/ ) and if the mood strikes you, donate something.
Don't worry though, I won't think you're H.A. if you don't, because I know all the friends I have that read this have already contributed to brightening someone's life in another way. Rant over.
